The geometric design of the ball also refers to local architecture, to the Arabic influences inherent in Viennese Jugendstil architecture.
In particular it echoes the dome of the Secession, across the axis of the old city, equidistant from St. Stephan's cathedral in the center.

The ball is surrounded by a 'dance floor' with patterned paving - a circular area 10m in diameter. The pattern is inspired by the slate roof of St. Stephan's Cathedral.
