The design is a hybrid form - a disco ball and a maypole. It incorporates the pink and black triangles of the concentration camps, disco culture of the 70s
& 80s, and the open and communal life of today's gay pride and rainbow gatherings. It takes the form of the traditional maypole, and creates a gathering place that can be used for festive occasions.
The disco ball is in the form of a dodecahedron, which is also the structure of the HIV virus. It is constructed of pink and black triangles of colored glass, lit from within. It would turn on special occasions, illuminated with sparkling and shooting lights.
